This evening, Sunday 9 August, the penultimate episode of the season of “Noos – The adventure of knowledge”, the scientific dissemination program created and hosted by Alberto Angela, will be broadcast on Rai 1 in prime time. As always, the event touches on very different topics: medicine, neuroscience, archaeology, nature, technology and international current affairs.
What the episode will be about
We start with a delicate topic: addictions. Psychiatrist Giovanni Martinotti will help Angela explain how compulsive behavior arises in the brain, be it alcohol, drugs, smoking, but also work, food, shopping or addiction to digital devices. The sexologist Emmanuele Jannini will instead focus on emotional dependence, that is, when a romantic relationship becomes a toxic bond.
Much emphasis will be given to a success of Italian medical research: an experimental gene therapy that has concretely improved the lives of young people with serious autoimmune diseases. Professor Franco Locatelli and Doctor Fabrizio De Benedetti will tell it.
The director of the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, Gabriel Zuchtriegel, will return with news from the excavations and an in-depth analysis of the Doryphoros, one of the most famous statues of ancient art.
The episode will also include an American news story told by Carlo Lucarelli, a geopolitical analysis by Dario Fabbri, and advice from nutritionist Elisabetta Bernardi on how to keep cholesterol under control with nutrition.
There will be a chapter dedicated to animals: ethologist Elisabetta Palagi will present the most recent discoveries on the behavior of orcas, while a report will take spectators to the laboratory of the University of Padua in Chioggia, where sharks are studied to protect marine ecosystems.
We will also look at space, with astrophysicist Luca Perri visiting a European center where astronauts and scientists train on a realistic reconstruction of the lunar soil, in view of the next missions.
To close the evening, Massimo Polidoro will explain how to protect yourself from “quishing”, the scam that uses QR Codes to steal personal data, while astrophysicist Edwige Pezzulli will lead the audience through black holes and the great enigmas of the universe.
