A path that unites Franciscan Italy
Presented in Rome, The Path of Francis – The Path of Light was born with the ambition of bringing together under a single identity the many paths that, over the years, have been inspired by the life of the Saint of Assisi, finally giving coherence to a heritage of paths that has hitherto been fragmented but capable of crossing some of the most authentic landscapes of central Italy.

Six regions, one destination
Developing for 1,546 kilometers between main routes, variants and secondary connections, the Camino crosses Abruzzo, Emilia-Romagna, Lazio, Marche, Tuscany and Umbria, intertwining villages, protected natural areas and places that still preserve the memory of Francis’ passage today, finally converging in Assisi, the final destination and symbolic heart of the entire pilgrimage.
A walking journey to the places linked to the life of the saint
Completely practicable on foot, the itinerary is the result of a long historical-critical validation work, conducted to precisely identify the most significant routes linked to the life of the Saint and the subsequent history of the Franciscan Order. The result is an experience that speaks both to pilgrims and to those who love trekking and slow tourism, and which winds through woods, hills, art sites and small towns where traditions seem to have stopped in time. At a time when the demand for sustainable travel is growing, capable of rediscovering internal areas and villages too often on the margins of tourist flows, walking along these paths becomes a way to experience the area with more human rhythms: supporting local economies, contributing to the deseasonalization of tourism and building, step by step, a more authentic relationship with the environment and the communities that inhabit it.

The new itinerary also arrives on Italia.it, the official portal for Italian tourism promotion, where Italian and international travelers will be able to consult maps, stages and useful content for planning the route through the website and the dedicated app, thus making the Way of Francis even more accessible to those arriving from outside the border.
An experience that goes beyond the pilgrimage
More than a simple religious itinerary, the Way of Francis is proposed as an experience in which spirituality, culture, nature and well-being end up naturally intertwining, composing the portrait of an Italy made up of paths, monasteries, woods and rural landscapes that can be discovered, precisely, one step at a time. Today it is certainly one of the most representative routes of slow tourism in our country.
