All it takes is one wrong click, or worse no click, and in September you will be excluded from school bonuses, single allowances and bill discounts. Because the ISEE is not a document that is consulted once and forgotten, it must be renewed every year and, in certain cases, reissued several times should the economic situation of the family unit change.
What is the ISEE certificate and why is it needed every year
The ISEE, the Equivalent Economic Situation Indicator, photographs income, assets and family composition to establish who is entitled to a benefit and to what extent. The document arises from the DSU, the Single Substitutive Declaration: whoever submits it obtains, after processing by INPS, the actual ISEE certificate, which can be downloaded in PDF and attached to the bonus applications.
Where to download the ISEE: the INPS single portal
The official channel is the single ISEE portal, accessible from the institutional website inps.it. It can be accessed with at least a second level SPID, CIE 3.0 or CNS: just search for “ISEE Single Portal” in the search bar of the site, or enter MyINPS and follow the path dedicated to the declaration. Those who have already sent the DSU will find the certification ready in the submitted declarations section; those who have yet to submit it can choose the pre-compiled mode, generally the fastest because it automatically recovers part of the data. Once the declaration has been identified, the path to download the certificate is linear: select the DSU of interest, open the certificate and choose whether to print it or save it in PDF, even in another language if necessary. The same operation can be done from the INPS Mobile app, searching for the “ISEE Consultation” item among the available services.
New for 2026: the ISEE value for family benefits
With the 2026 Budget Law, the calculation criterion for some benefits has changed: inclusion allowance, support for training and work, single and universal allowance, nursery bonus and newborn bonus now refer to a specific ISEE value, more favorable in the new parameters. INPS, with message no. 213 of 22 January 2026, had introduced a temporary consultation function while awaiting the new certification model. With message no. 799 of 6 March 2026, the Institute then automatically updated all the DSU certificates presented from 1 January 2026, aligning them with the new criteria: those who already have an active DSU therefore do not have to redo anything, the value updates itself.
What expires in September
September is a month of concrete deadlines linked precisely to the ISEE. Families with children enrolled in private schools have until 21 September 2026 to request the state contribution linked to the school year just ended, up to 1,500 euros per student: the application does not go through the INPS portal, but through the Single Platform of the Ministry of Education and Merit (UNICA-MIM), which automatically verifies the requirements by cross-referencing the data of INPS, Sidi and the national registry of the resident population. However, it remains reserved for those with a core ISEE of no more than 30 thousand euros, valid and without discrepancies in the data declared. Also in this period, based on the calendar of previous years, we await the opening of applications for the psychologist bonus, also graduated according to ISEE bands. In both cases the same rule applies: without an updated ISEE certificate the application will not start.
How long does it last and when does it need to be renewed
The ISEE certificate expires on December 31st of each year, always, without exceptions related to the current year. Anyone who has a current ISEE, i.e. calculated on a recent change in income, must verify its validity on a case-by-case basis: it generally lasts six months and must be renewed if the economic situation changes again. For those who receive the inclusion allowance, the renewal by 31 January remains a deadline not to be missed: in 2026 there are no extraordinary extensions as has happened in the past.
