Garlands, rugs, decorative letters, there are countless DIY ideas for creatively recycling balls of wool that you no longer use. And they don’t require great techniques but just a little patience and concentration.

Wreaths with pompoms
With the wool you have leftover you can create cute pompoms that lend themselves to making beautiful garlands to hang on the door. There are several ways to make pompoms, you can find our tutorials here.
We recommend using the leftover wool you have at home, combining the colors according to your preferences. You can focus on bright shades, pastel shades or opt for colors suited to the current season.
To create the garland, get a circular polystyrene base or make it with cardboard. Apply the various pompoms on top, one after the other, using hot glue. A pinch is enough on the base of each one but check from time to time that they are well attached. All you have to do is choose a nice ribbon and hang the garland.
Or create some garlands to hang in your bedroom. Nice and original.
Mats with pompoms
Pompoms are suitable for making cute DIY mats of all shapes and sizes. All you need is a perforated base where you can patiently insert each pompom until you have completely covered it.
Round, square, rectangular, colorful or monochromatic, the choice is yours also based on the balls of wool you have at home.
DIY garlands
Alternatively you can wind the wool thread directly onto the circular polystyrene base, using a single color or alternating several.
To make your wreath prettier, add some felt flowers, a few feathers or other elements of your choice.
Decorative letters
With leftover balls of wool you can cover cardboard letters, a fun craft for children too.
Simply draw the letters on a piece of cardboard and cut them out with scissors. Then wrap them with woolen threads.
Wall decorations
Leftover balls of wool can also be transformed into original wall decorations. One of the simplest ideas consists of tying threads of different lengths to a wooden stick, to a branch collected during a walk or to a small circular support, creating a sort of DIY tapestry.
You can alternate different colors, thicknesses and textures, possibly adding wooden beads, tassels or small pompoms. It is not necessary to follow a precise pattern: the irregularity of the threads and the combination of different shades can make the decoration even more interesting. It’s also a great way to use small amounts of wool that, taken individually, wouldn’t be enough for more demanding projects.
Coated jars and containers
Another easy-to-make idea is to recover glass jars, old jars or containers and cover them with leftover woolen threads. Start from the base, apply a little glue and wrap the wool all around, trying to keep the threads close together.
You can use a single color or create colorful bands by alternating different wool scraps. Once the covering is finished, the containers can become pencil holders, object holders or small decorative vase covers. To personalize them further you can add recycled buttons, ribbons, pieces of felt or simple tassels, obtaining a different result every time.
