Pezzente della Montagna Materana recalled due to microbiological risk: the Salumi Tipici Lucani branded batch

The pezzente, a poor salami by definition and born from the less noble cuts of pork, this time is in the news for a reason that has nothing to do with tradition. The Ministry of Health has published the recall notice of the Pezzente della Montagna Materana branded Salumi Tipici Lucani, withdrawn from the market due to the presence of Salmonella. The warning is dated October 7, 2026 (posted on the 9th) and asks consumers not to eat the product.

The recalled product

The recall concerns the Pezzente della Montagna Materana branded Salumi Tipici Lucani, marketed by Sapori Mediterranei and sold in packs of approximately 300 grams. The production plant is identified by the mark 9-3524/L.

The affected lot is 63/26, with an expiration date of March 28, 2027. The notice does not mention other lots.

Because he was recalled

The presence of salmonella was detected in the cured meat, the bacterial agent which, according to the Istituto Superiore di Sanità, is most often isolated in food-borne infections. The most insidious detail is that contaminated food usually does not change its appearance, smell or taste. The symptoms of salmonellosis (fever, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea) generally appear between 12 and 36 hours after the meal and last a few days. In most cases the infection goes away on its own, but for the elderly, children, pregnant women and people with low immunity it can take a more serious turn.

What to do if you bought it

The indication of the notice is clear: the cured meat from batch 63/26 must not be consumed and must be returned to the point of sale where it was purchased, where it will be possible to obtain a refund.
