75-inch TV, you don’t need to spend 2,000 euros: the best purchases according to Altroconsumo start from 664 euros

A 75-inch television, given its size, needs some extra attention, and even before the model the elements to take into consideration are the wall, the distance from the sofa and the tightness of the furniture. Altroconsumo put the large formats to the test and selected four: two OLEDs from LG at the top of the ranking, a Samsung and a Hisense which cost less than half and take the title of Best Buy.x

The two LG OLEDs, Best in the Test

LG OLED77B65LA and LG OLED77B6ELC are, in fact, the same device, a 77-inch 4K OLED at 120 Hz sold with two different acronyms depending on the commercial channel. Both get 4 stars Global Quality. The strong point is the image, with 5 stars for contrast and uniformity and 4.5 for HD rendering and viewing angle; the audio stops at 4 stars. They support Dolby Vision and HDR10, have four HDMI inputs, AirPlay 2 and Google Cast. Passed with flying colors even in the game (5 stars), they only give up something on the maximum brightness, rated 3.5. Since they are identical, the price decides. The B65LA starts from 1,871 euros, the B6ELC from 2,099. As mentioned, they are the Best in the Test.

Samsung and Hisense, Best Buy

With around 700 euros you go down in category, but not by much: Samsung UE75U8000HUXZT and Hisense 75Q7S score 3.5 stars for Global Quality. Compared to the previous ones, something is given up above all in terms of image quality, a fact that does not preclude the title of Best Buy for both.

The Samsung is a 75-inch 4K LCD with three HDMI inputs. The screen gets 3.5 stars and the audio 4, with contrast and dialogue at 4.5. The sore points are the brightness (2 stars), the uniformity of the screen (2.5) and consumption (2.5). It is also the lightest of the four. Price: from 664.16 euros.

The Hisense features a Quantum Dot LCD panel with direct backlighting. 3.5-star screen, 4-star Smart TV, 5-star voice commands. The sound stops at 3, and the same rating goes to the viewing angle, a detail not to be underestimated if there are those in the family who watch TV askance from the armrest. Price: from 699 euros.

The measurements to check before ordering

A 75 inch has a diagonal of 190.5 centimetres. The screen is approximately 166 cm wide and 93.5 high; with the frame it reaches more or less 168 by 96. On the cabinet the pedestal adds 10-15 centimeters in height and requires a shelf 30-40 cm deep. On the wall, what counts is the weight, which can exceed 30 kilos, the sturdiness of the wall and the capacity of the bracket. With children or animals in the house, the wall is better, while adjustable supports are not recommended for such large devices. Then there is the sofa: for a 75 inch, Altroconsumo indicates an ideal distance between 4.8 and 5.8 metres, given that, being too close, the eyes would get tired and the head would chase the action from one corner of the screen to the other. Finally, the center of the panel should be at the eye level of the seated viewer.

The advice of Marco Sabbadini, engineer and audio and video expert of the association, reverses the usual purchasing order: as mentioned at the beginning, it is better to choose the size first, then the model. In short, the measuring tape comes before the flyer.
