Rome makes history: the first public veterinary hospital in the capital was born

Rome takes a revolutionary step for the protection of pets with the birth of the First public veterinary hospital in the capital. The structure, which will rise at the Muratella kennelrepresents a turning point in the panorama of veterinary health, offering free care and a First aid H24 for friends on four legs belonging to families in economic difficulty.

An always active emergency room

The hospital, whose works will begin within the first months of 2025, includes a 24 -hour operational emergency room, equipped with two rooms for visits, an area for ultrasounds, CT and X -ray, as well as two operating rooms and a intensive care unit. The classic hospital rooms will be replaced by comfortable stiffs, ensuring maximum well -being for hospitalized animals.

The initiative is part of a larger project of expansion of the Muratella kennel, which will see the creation of new housing modules for four -legged guests and spaces dedicated to infected animals. The approach adopted does not consider the kennel only as a transit place, but as one real “dog house”with particular attention to their quality of life.

Concrete help for fragile families

One of the main objectives of the project is guarantee veterinary assistance even to those who cannot afford it. Free care for low -income people, elderly and families in difficulty will be planned, so as to prevent economic difficulties from translating in abandonment or failure to health care for pets.

This inclusive philosophy has already found a first realization with The Lav Italia veterinary clinicinaugurated in October 2024 in collaboration with the Community of Sant’Egidio. The structure provides free treatments to animals of fragile people, demonstrating how the protection of animal welfare can and should go hand in hand with support for the weakest social bands.

Investments and future of the project

The project of the Public Veterinary Hospital of Rome was made possible thanks to a total financing of 6.5 million euroswith funds intended for both the expansion of the kennel and to the construction of the new health facility. The works, entrusted to the company Gi.fe. Costruzioni Srl, will have a scheduled duration of about two years.

“With the realization of the public veterinary hospital, Rome sets itself at the forefront in Italy for the protection of animals of affection. A fundamental milestone that guarantees treatments of excellence and strengthens our commitment against stray dogs, “he told the messenger the councilor for agriculture, environment and waste cycle, Sabrina Alfonsi.

The opening of the first public veterinary hospital in Rome represents a novelty on the national scene and could become a replicable model in other Italian cities. The need to guarantee veterinary assistance accessible to everyone, regardless of the economic condition, is increasingly felt and this initiative could trace the way for a fair future for pets and their owners.
