In conjunction with the Milan Fashion Week and the COP 16.2 on biodiversity in Rome, a new parliamentary question was presented on the fate of the Visons still confined to Italian farms who, before being banned in 2022, were intended for the production of fur.
After what happened in autumn 2024 in a Capergnanica breeding, in the province of Cremona, when-following the identification of a new outbreak of Sars-Cov-2 were 900 visions that were still confined inside the structure – one cannot remain indifferent.
Although the introduction of the breeding prohibition dates back to 2022, thousands of visions continue to suffer in unacceptable conditions, while the government has not yet adopted the decree for their transfer to authorized structures, as required by law, reads the question. For this reason, the minister of agriculture, food sovereignty and forests must intervene urgently to guarantee the well -being of animals, respect the current rules and prevent further risks for the community.
The amendment
Still, an amendment to the 2022 budget law had led to the introduction of the ban on breeding animals for the production of fur in Italy. Subsequently, many animalistic associations repeatedly reiterated the need for the competent ministries to regulate the possible sale of the animals still locked up in the farms and their transfer to structures managed directly by animal protection associations.
The failure to issue the necessary implementing decrees condemned animals to continue living in inadequate spaces, exposed to repeated epidemic outbreaks. Of the almost 6,000 visions that were still alive at the entry into force of the Budget Law 2022, unfortunately it is estimated that less than 500 specimens remain.
The ministers in charge of ensuring a future for these animals seem to have failed to their duty, in fact condemning or putting the lives of thousands of sentient beings at risk, as well as the health of citizens and Italian towns – says Alessandro Fazzi, consultant institutional relationships of Humane World for Animals Italy. Humane World for Animals Italia asks that the measures aimed at protecting animals and population are finally adopted. In addition, on the occasion of Milan Fashion Week, he renews his appeal against national and international fashion brands, so that he adopts Fur-Free policies.
Among the latest companies that responded to the appeal is the Max Mara Fashion Group. Following the campaign launched by Humane World for Animals and the other members of the Fur Free Alliance during last year’s fashion weeks, which included the overflow of a hot air balloon above the Max Mara headquarters in Reggio Emilia, the group put an end to the use of fur in its collections.
Finally, let’s not forget a data: in Europe, to date There are 16 Member States that have already forbidden this cruel practice It is dangerous for public health, the last of which is Romania. In Italy, from 1 January 2022, vision farms and other fur animals have been banned and forced to close their doors.
