In the warm lowland forests of the National Park Ulu Temburongon the island of Borneo A new species of snail belonging to the genus has been discovered Microparmarion.
Specifically, it is one semi-snailalso called snugor a specimen that has a smaller shell on its back, which does not allow it to retreat completely inside; for this reason most of its body, similar to that of a worm, remains uncovered.
Researchers had already classified 10 different species of snug belonging to the genus Microparmarion in the cool mountain forests.
However, what impressed the researchers is that the new species discovered seems to prefer warmer climates, in fact it was found during an expedition through the hottest forests of the plain of Ulu Temburong.
The first expedition to these forests was in 2018, when one of the researchers noticed something under a leaf which, however, was not identified. It seems to have been something slimy with a small shell.
Other expeditions then followed, useful for providing researchers and zoologists with the necessary tools to recognize and classify this possible new species.
The publication of the article relating to the discovery reports details on the external and internal reproductive morphology, the characteristics of the shell and body and direct comparisons with other specimens of similar species. There is also no shortage of details on the ecology of the environment in which the specimen was found.
The new species, which joins another specimen of lowland semi-snail, takes its name from one of the researchers involved in the project, Md Salleh Abdullah Batsupervisor of the research team.
