“Adopt a path”, the splendid initiative to improve the maintenance and cleaning of paths

The Regional Natural Park of Simbruini Mountains started the initiative “Adopt a path”, a project that aims to protect and enhance the hiking heritage of the protected area. This program was created for improve trail maintenancemany of which represent routes of great cultural, naturalistic and social value.

The main goal is to engage local associations, companies and citizens in monitoring and ordinary maintenance activities, ensuring full usability of the routes. Participation in the project requires the adopters to take care of themselves cleaning, maintenance and restoration of signs along the paths assigned to them.

To support this collaboration, the Park Authority offers a one-off expense reimbursement and provides a technical service to assist volunteers. The initiative was welcomed with enthusiasm, registering the participation of various associations and the presentation of numerous new requests for participation, including from private citizens.

The commitment to regularly walk the adopted paths and clean them

The Park Commissioner, Alberto Foppoli, highlighted how the project represents a virtuous example of collaboration for environmental protection and sustainable development. The adoption of a path is not limited to a practical commitment, but also stimulates a sense of belonging and responsibility towards the territory.

Participants undertake to regularly travel the adopted paths, checking their condition and intervening when necessaryespecially after significant climate events. Last August 23rd the Park delivered recognition plaques to the associations already involved, also signing new agreements.

“Adopt a Path” is an opportunity to enhance slow and conscious tourismoffering safe and well-maintained routes for hikers. The paths represent a link between places and people, uniting past, present and future with a view to sustainability and care for the environment.
