Banksy’s art arrives in Agrigento: you can visit the exhibition with 180 works for free (but only for a few days)

The month of December sees Agrigento host an event that promises to leave a mark on the Sicilian cultural panorama. From 4 to 21 December, the Banksy Humanity Collection finds space in the exhibition hall of the Chamber of Commerce, bringing to the city a wide selection of the most recognizable works by the artist who transformed irony into a political tool. The inauguration is scheduled for December 3rd at 6.00 pm, free admission for the entire duration of the exhibition, with extensions on December 6th and 20th.

A journey that combines universal themes and local realities

The exhibition arrives in Italy after having crossed fourteen European cities, accompanied by over two hundred thousand visitors involved not only as spectators but also as supporters of social initiatives. The heart of the project revolves around justice, equality and solidarity, themes that dialogue with the activities of the local associations involved in the exhibition: Tierra Techo Trabajo APS, Yard 44, Scaro Cafè and Arci John Belushi, whose contribution will give shape to moments of cultural mediation, meeting spaces and paths oriented towards inclusion. The Banksy Modeste Collection Foundation will also promote projects dedicated to the Agrigento community, strengthening the link between art and participation.

The Modeste Collection: a living, ever-expanding collection

The central core of the exhibition is made up of around two hundred works from the Banksy Modeste Collection, a collection created in 2020 through the purchase of a first group of works that belonged to a private collector. Over time it has expanded by integrating materials from more recent exhibitions, such as “Cut and Run” at Glasgow 2024, as well as screenprints, photographs and objects from individual collections. Today the heritage exceeds two hundred and fifty pieces and in Agrigento it will be presented with a rigorous curatorial structure: each work will include detailed information on context, date and place, to give the visitor the depth of the original message.
