In Orta di Atella, in the province of Caserta, a truly extraordinary Christmas tree was created, which entered the Guinness Book of Records: the so-called “Tree of Peace”. This impressive fir tree was created entirely by crochet, using approximately 12 thousand doilies. The structure, 12 meters high, stands out not only for its size, but also for the precision and commitment necessary for its creation and has immediately become a symbol of craftsmanship and Christmas creativity.
Five months of collective work with an ad hoc designed structure
Construction of the tree began in July 2025 and took approximately five months of intense work. The project was completed by forty women belonging to the Sanctuary of San Salvatore da Horta Laboratory, who dedicated time and patience to complete each single crochet doily.
To support the size and complexity of the work, a special structure was created, designed by the architect Pasquale D’Ambrosio. Numerous professionals and citizens collaborated for free on the construction, demonstrating a strong sense of community and solidarity. The inauguration of the tree, which took place on 30 November 2025, saw the participation of Monsignor Angelo Spinillo, bishop of Aversa, who underlined the value of the initiative for the city and the territory.
A message of peace and cooperation
The creator of the initiative, Angelo Cervone, minister of the Secular Franciscan Order, explained how the project represents a concrete example of teamwork: doily after doily, people collaborated to create a work that symbolizes peace, dialogue and unity. The tree aims to be not only a Christmas attraction, but also a universal message aimed at the great people of the earth and the entire community, demonstrating that cooperation can transform an ambitious idea into a tangible reality.
