They lived among their own sewage, malnourished and never cared for, in dirty and poorly lit stables, according to the script that we now discover every day of intensive and non-intensive farms. Exactly in these conditions, many cattle were also found, many of which died of starvation, in a stable in the province of Udine.

Thanks to its activity in the area, LAV became a civil party in the trial against the accused. But in the first hearing on October 4, the judge admitted the accused to probation, as requested by his defense, and postponed it to the hearing on January 14 for the examination of the relevant program, with the intention of offer a volunteer work in contact with animals.
Probation constitutes a judicial proceeding in which the accused, instead of facing the traditional trial, chooses to join a project of social recovery which can thus also translate into a simple execution of a public utility service through free volunteering activities.
This method of extinguishing the crime should not be envisaged for crimes against living beings, whose value, in this way, is debased like mere objects – says Bianca Boldrini, animal area manager on LAV farms – LAV, who has occupied since the beginning of the case, firmly opposes it: the admission of the test determines a ridiculous punishment for those who have committed cruel acts, perpetrated over time, against multiple animals.
Decisive action is needed against people who cause violence to animals. For this reason we ask the Justice Commission of the Chamber of Deputies to approve the legislative proposals to stiffen penalties and make the rules for prosecuting crimes against animals more effective, approval also due in implementation of Article 9 of the Constitution.
