The enchanting comet C/2025 A6 (Lemmon) it is conquering astronomy enthusiasts all over the world and is undoubtedly the brightest of the year. In skies free of light pollution, it is possible to see it with the naked eye. And it is precisely in these days that it is reaching its maximum splendor. The comet passed Earth on October 21, reaching a brightness of magnitude 4.2, which makes it visible without the need for sophisticated telescopes.
The shots showing his long and brilliant trail are multiplying on social media:

Among the most beautiful photos, the one sent to us by Francesco Cotroneo stands out. The splendid comet Lemmon was immortalized on October 24 above the Rocca Borromean of Angera, one of the historical symbols of Lake Maggiore:

Lemmon is not disappointing astronomers and many enthusiasts (and it is not the only comet that has been talked about a lot in recent weeks). And there are also those, like Gianluca Masi, who were lucky enough to capture a unique moment; the founder of The Virtual Telescope Project immortalized, in fact, a meteor crossing the sky in the same region as Lemmon.

“In that shot between 7.43.33pm and 5.45.33pm, the persistent trail left by the meteor is clearly visible, with a clear reddish tint. – explains Masi – The phenomenon is associated with the ionization of the molecular oxygen present in the atmosphere, due to the meteoric event, and its subsequent recombination, which corresponds to the emission of light energy at that wavelength. In this photograph, the afterglow of the meteor seems to twist around the meteor’s tail. ions of the comet: a pure prospective miracle, since the first is an atmospheric phenomenon, induced by the meteor, while the comet was about 100 million kilometers away.
One of the most fascinating aspects of C/2025 A6 (Lemmon) is its extraordinary bright green foliage, due to diatomic carbon which, when in contact with sunlight, emits a hypnotic glow.
How to see the comet
But how long will comet C/2025 A6 be visible? According to expert forecasts, the celestial body can be observed in the evening sky until approximately November 10th. In recent days it has reached its peak brightness, but it will begin to fade. To observe it we advise you to go to a fairly dark place: to the naked eye it will appear as a slightly blurry star with a tail.
With good binoculars or a telescope you can admire it in all its splendor. It will be in the constellation Bootes in late October and will move towards Ophiuchus in early November.
