The 6 best Italian wines in the Best in Show
There are 6 of the best Italian wines in the Best in Show and these are their names, vintage and producer:
Regional champion remains Piedmont, considered the “king of Italian wine” with Tuscany as its consort and its iconic Brunello di Montalcino. However, the Veneto with the traditional Amarone della Valpolicella and the Gewürztraminer from Alto Adige remain territorial expressions of undisputed value.
Lazio is also noteworthy with Bellone, an ancient native white grape variety grown particularly in the provinces of Rome and Latina. The Anthium Bellone 2023 was a surprise for everyone. It is the first time that the region has appeared in the Best in Show.
Platinum also for Italy
Even in the Platinum category, Italy plays its best cards, and wins with 18 bottles in the ranking. Among the winners there are also Ben Ryé, Passito di Pantelleria 2022 by Donnafugata, the Vin Santo di Carmignano Riserva 2016 by Tenuta di Capezzana, the Cabochon Brut of Monte Rosa from Franciacorta.
Overall, Italy wins the third place in the ranking behind France and Spain with Piedmont with 20 medals overall. Registrations are already open for the Decanter World Wine Awards 2025.
