Dionaea: how to grow and care for the Venus Flytrap

Also known as Venus Flytrapthe Dionaea is one carnivorous plant small in size, grown in pots and about 15 cm tall.

It belongs to the family of Droseraceaeand the most widespread species is the dionaea muscipula.

The term dionaea derives from Greek and means “she who was born of Dione”, an epithet attributed to the goddess Aphrodite.

What most characterizes this plant are the leaves equipped with soft teeth, real traps for small insects; in fact, they close as soon as they reveal some presence on their surface.

Dionaea is a common houseplant, grown in pots. It is a carnivorous species, capable of eating and digesting small insects that land on its surfaces toothed leaves.

The color of the leaves varies based on exposure to the sun: in fact, if the plant is exposed to a lot of light the internal color of the foliage is bright red, otherwise it turns towards green.

To make it grow luxuriantly, the ideal temperature ranges from 7 to 21°. In winter, however, the temperature must not exceed 7°.
