How wonderful! Archaeologists found traces of the life of a people who lived over 2000 years ago in the Sannio

Wonderful Italyour country never ceases to amaze us: in an area of 5 hectares of Circello (prov. Benevento), a team of archaeologists found the traces of an ancient settlement that dates back to the time of Ligurian Bebiania people who were deported by the ancient Romans in the area around 180 BC.

This ancient population refers to the Food tabula discovered in the same area and preserved in Rome at the National Roman Museum Terme di Diocletian. It is a large bronze table, relating to the establishment of food in the main center of Ligurian Bebianithe current Circello.

As reported by the Ministry of Culture, the archaeologists of University of Berlin and Hamburgin collaboration with theGermanic Archaeological Instituteand with the participation of the Municipality of Circello and of the Archeology Superintendence Fine Arts and Landscape Caserta and Beneventoin particular, led non -invasive geophysical investigations. Therefore, at the moment, the evidence of these finds were obtained indirectly. However, there seems to be no doubt.

The preliminary results have allowed, in fact, to recognize and hypothesize the presence of masonry structures and archaeological evidence referable toUrban system of the center of the Ligureswhose amplitude is assumed to be 20 hectares, characterized by a housing neighborhood, a large public area, by commercial buildings and a dense jersey of road axes.

The first results were presented in a Public event on August 5th in Circelloand the investigations will continue in the summer of 2026 with the aim of deepening the tracks and “materially” “materially” to “materially”.
