Hugo and Ross Turnera pair of identical twins, decided to put it to the test two completely different diets for 12 weeks. The goal was to understand which diet could bring the most benefits to the body.

While Hugo adopted a Strictly vegan dietRoss maintained a feed omnivorous including meat, fish and dairy products. The study, overseen by King’s College London, involved both consuming the same number of calories and following the same exercise program to isolate the impact of diet as the only variable.

Hugo initially found it difficult to give up animal products, but after the first few weeks he noticed a significant improvement in his energy levelswhich remained constant throughout the day.

Plus his cholesterol dropped dramaticallya sign of cardiovascular benefit. He also lost about four pounds and reduced his body fat percentage by 1 percent, proving that the vegan diet was more effective in promoting weight loss.

The results of the study

Ross, the twin who continued to consume meat, experienced more mixed performance in the gym. Some days he felt full of energy, but on others he felt a significant decline. His diet led him to gain weight approximately 4.5 kg of muscle massbut also to increase the percentage of body fatwhich went from 13% to 15%. This highlighted how an omnivorous diet, while useful for building muscle, can also lead to fat accumulation.

An interesting aspect of the study was the impact of diets on the gut microbiota. Hugo, despite the benefits in terms of energy and weight, recorded a reduction in the diversity of intestinal bacteriaan element that could increase susceptibility to certain diseases. In contrast, the diversity of Ross’ microbiota remained stable.

At the end of the experiment, the differences between the two diets were not as dramatic as expected. However,Hugo earned a improvement in energy management and metabolic health, while Ross achieved an increase in muscle mass. This experiment proves that there is no “perfect” diet, but rather the need to adapt your diet to your personal needs and objectives.
