Rusks are a great classic of Italian breakfast and today the choice in the supermarket is truly wide. They range from classic and golden versions, to those with cereals, enriched with fruit, delicious with chocolate and, of course, wholemeal ones. A new test of Altroconsumocompared them by evaluating more than 100 products in terms of ingredients and nutritional values.
Today we focus in particular on the results obtained from wholemeal rusks which differ from others due to the use of wholemeal flour in the recipe, which guarantees the product a higher fiber content. This makes them a slightly healthier choice than the classic versions, promoting a sense of satiety and intestinal well-being.
Let’s find out immediately how the various brands fared.

How the test was conducted
The test of Altroconsumo on rusks was based on the analysis of over 100 products, including classic, wholemeal and other variants. The evaluation was mainly made on the nutritional values and the list of ingredients, using a score from 0 to 100 which considers: nutritional quality (Nutri-score, 55%), the presence of additives (15%), the degree of industrial processing (15%), sweeteners (10%) and the portion (5%).
The products were chosen from 10 supermarket and discount chains and recorded on the shelves in July 2025. The final score allows the rusks to be classified into five bands: Very good, Good, Acceptable, Poor and Very poor, offering a clear indication on the composition of the products.
