September saw the Nas carabinieri engaged in a series of tight controls in supermarkets and hypermarkets of the province of Naples. The results were alarming: over 21 tons of seized foods and eight commercial activities suspended for serious hygienic-sanitary deficiencies.
The military found problems widespread in the management and traceability of food, as well as violations in the internal self -control procedures of companies. In many cases, the situation was also aggravated by the presence of insects in the areas of storage, preparation and administration of food.
All this, of course, is not tolerable, because it highlights a level of negligence and violation of the standards that are completely unacceptable in the food sector.
Targeted checks on eggs, preserves and oils
Among the controlled foods, particular attention has been paid to eggs, vegetable preserves and oils, products that, if contaminated, can represent serious health risks. The samples aimed to prevent food poisoning and possible cases of botulism, which in recent months have aroused a lot of concern in the health authorities.
The inspections also led to the issuance of administrative sanctions for about 81,000 euros. Overall, the tied activities amount to about one and a half million euros, while the value of the seized goods is estimated at around 350,000 euros.
Also in this case, the names of suspended supermarkets and the brands of the products involved have not been disclosed. This leaves many consumers in uncertainty, unable to know which stores avoiding or which foods were potentially at risk. Despite this, the maxi kidnapping underlines the importance of systematic controls on the food supply chain and the need for citizens to always remain vigilant when they shop, paying attention above all to perishable products such as meat, eggs but also vegetable preserves.
