New arrival for those traveling with Ryanair: from next November it will be more risky to try to embark on an out of measure without supplement. The Irish company has in fact decided to increase the bonus recognized to the gates who stop passengers with too large suitcases.
If so far the staff received 1.50 euros for each non -compliant trolley, now the incentive will rise to 2.50 euros. In addition, the maximum limit of 80 euros per month that operators could accumulate was removed. A way to push controllers to apply the rules with greater severity.
What changes for travelers
The new rules confirm that it can be brought on board for free only a small backpack to be placed under the seat, with maximum dimensions of 40 x 30 x 20 cm. For a trolley in the cabin it will be necessary to buy a supplement, otherwise you risk a fine of up to 75-80 euros and the transfer of the luggage in the hold.
According to the data released by the company, every year about 200 thousand passengers – equal to 0.1% of the total – are stopped by suitcases beyond the permitted measures. Numbers that, although reduced, represent an extra significant gain for Ryanair.
O’Lary’s words
CEO Michael O’Leary defended the decision, claiming that a rigid application of the rules is essential to maintain punctual flights and low rates. The entrepreneur also ironized on those who still try to overcome controls with bulky backpacks: “We will notice it and pay”, He said in no uncertain terms. According to O’Leary, the idea that Ryanair is excessively severe is a false myth, since the vast majority of passengers respect the rules without problems.
The European context
The narrow comes while the European Union discusses a legislation that would guarantee the right to bring a hand luggage for free to the cabin on all community flights. A measure that, if approved, could reduce the profit margins of low cost vectors, pushing them to introduce further accessory costs.
Other companies, such as Easyjet, have also adopted similar systems: employees who control luggage receive an incentive for each out -of -measure suitcase identified. Ryanair, however, seems willing to focus even more on this mechanism to strengthen the controls.
