Open House Rome 2026: you can enter for free in over 200 buildings and historical sites usually closed to the public (but only for a few days)

Open House Roma, the international architecture festival promoted by the Open City Roma APS association, now in its fourteenth edition, returns from 16 to 24 May. For nine days the city will become a true “widespread museum”, with over 200 places including historical and contemporary architecture, institutional sites, professional studios and normally inaccessible spaces open to the public free of charge.

The 2026 program is divided into five thematic areas. City in Flux tells the story of the relationship between Rome and nature, which has always been an integral part of the urban fabric. Designing Rome for women brings the focus on the contribution of women in the architecture, design and planning of the city. Heroic Engineering is a journey through the great structural works that have marked the capital. Inclusive city focuses on accessibility and inclusion, with routes designed for different audiences. Added to these is Architecture of public space, dedicated to collective places and their transformation.

Tours, workshops and accessibility

The program includes 60 guided tours and 50 special events, with great attention dedicated to the theme of inclusiveness, including space for tactile visits, multisensory itineraries, activities for people on the autistic spectrum and visits to LIS. For the little ones there is OHRkids, with self-building workshops, architectural treasure hunts and drawing sessions in the historic districts.

How to participate

Entrance is free. The official website provides three access methods, divided between booking in advance, free access on a first-come, first-served basis and Rush Line for any places still available. To book you need to register on openhouseroma.org, choose the visit, date and time and complete the booking (with a single registration you can bring up to two adults and two children under 12). On the day of the event you can access via a digital Open House Pass, which must be shown to volunteers at the entrance together with an identity document. We remember that the festival was born in London in 1992, arrived in Rome in 2012 and today is active in 49 cities around the world.
