She was only 8 years old, but she was a fierce fan, animated by a great passion for football, in particular for her Palermo. And in recent months thousands of people have cheered for her. Little Alessia La Rosa, the 8-year-old girl who suffered from cancer and became a symbol for the whole of Italy, passed away during the night. Despite the aggressive disease, the little girl from Palermo did not stop frequenting the Curva Nord of her favorite stadium to follow the matches, so much so that she became the “lucky charm” of the Rosanero footballer Jacopo Segre, with whom she had taken the field several times.
The little girl, nicknamed “the warrior”, had also been invited by Venezia fans to the Penzo stadium to watch last week’s match; Unfortunately, however, his health conditions worsened.
The last farewell of his favorite team
“Palermo FC, with president Dario Mirri and the entire City Football Group family, mourns the untimely death of Alessia La Rosa, a little Rosanero fan aged just 8 who fought with extraordinary strength against a terrible illness – we read in a note published by Palermo on the official website – Having taken to the pitch several times at the ‘Renzo Barbera’ alongside the Rosanero players, and in particular Jacopo Segre, on the occasion of official matches, Alessia built with the Palermo a bond capable of going beyond football.
For her love for Palermo, experienced from the stands of the Curva Nord, and for her extraordinary ability to embody the most genuine passion for our colours, Alessia’s memory will remain forever alive in the memories of the Club and of the great rosanero family”.
Alessia La Rosa had to face a years-long journey, made up of continuous visits, surgeries, cycles of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. And his story warmed the hearts of footballers and fans in various cities, where banners appeared with words of affection and encouragement.
“There is a different ending. One in which you never left. And you remained with us, with the lights of the stadium reflected in your eyes as you enter the pitch with the boys, or up there in the corner while you sing at the top of your lungs. – these are the farewell words that Palermo Calcio addressed to you in a post on Facebook. This ending, if we want, is still possible, as long as each of us carries your smile in our hearts. See you at the Ale stadium, as always and forever always.”
“Goodbye warrior” we read on the profile of his Curva Nord. Little Alessia’s funeral home will be set up at the Renzo Barbera stadium, the place that had become home for her.
