Paternity leave extended to 25 days paid at 100%: Lidl Italia’s initiative to support families

A little big revolution for those who work at Lidl Italia. After announcing the early closing at 6pm on 24 and 31 December to allow all employees to enjoy the holidays with their loved ones, the large-scale retail trade company has launched an important welfare initiative, confirming its commitment to a policy of supporting employee well-being.

Starting from 1 December 2025, in fact, Lidl Italia will introduce an important innovation for paternity leave. For collaborators, paternity leave will be extended to a total of 25 days, paid at 100%, i.e. 15 days more than the 10 days provided for by current legislation in Italy. A significant change that aims to encourage a greater presence of fathers in the first moments of their children’s lives, a fundamental aspect for the well-being of the family and for greater equity in the division of parental tasks.

A measure that fills a gap

The benefit is not limited to the future, but will be retroactive. In fact, all collaborators who have become fathers starting from 1 March 2025 will be able to enjoy this extended leave, guaranteeing them to be able to take advantage of a right that promotes paternal involvement, gender equality and support for a better work-life balance and birth rate.

In a society where it is increasingly difficult to reconcile professional and family commitments, measures like this represent a strong signal of sensitivity and commitment towards a more human and inclusive working future. A step that, hopefully, can be replicated by other companies in this sector and beyond, contributing to a cultural change.
