Poisoned by street food in Sardinia: was there a botulinum in the guacamole? Two pulp of the Metro avocado pulp recalls

The food poisoning that occurred during the Latin Fiesta of Monserrato (Cagliari) seems to be a case of botulism. The investigations have identified a contaminated guacamole sauce as a probable cause, served in a Mexican cuisine stand, but the definitive results of the workshops are still awaited.

The outbreak hit 8 people, hospitalized in various hospital facilities in Sardinia. The most serious case concerns an 11 -year -old boy, transferred with a health flight to the Gemelli Polyclinic in Rome, where he is currently in pediatric intensive care. His conditions remain stable but critical: the child has been subjected to assisted ventilation for several days and a tracheostomy is now being evaluated to ensure better respiratory support and reduce the risks of complications.

The Cagliari prosecutor investigates the matter, who opened a file and enrolled in the register of suspects the organizer of the event. The Nas carabinieri seized the packaging of suspicious avocado pulp and sent the champions to the Istituto Superiore di Sanità, which will have to confirm the presence of the toxin.

As a precaution, the company has ordered the withdrawal of two suspicious lots, reporting the provision through the website of the Ministry of Health. The call concerns the one -kilogram packs of the Lotti Lotti Li4218 and Li4213, both produced in Peru.

We promptly adopted all the measures necessary to protect customers’ health, informing them of the incident in full compliance with current legislation. Metro is in constant contact with the health authorities and will provide updates as soon as available.

The packages concerned have been removed from the shelves and consumers are invited not to consume the products belonging to the lots reported.
