Fantastic afternoon today, April 19th, for Italian judo: at the European Championships our country takes home two gold medals (Alice Bellandiformer Olympic and world champion, in the women’s -78kg, and Gennaro Pirelli in the men’s -100kg) and a bronze medal (Asya Tavano in the women’s +78kg). Well done, we are proud of you!

Alice Bellandi, what can we say about this immense champion now? On 1 August 2024 he won the gold medal at the Paris Olympics, becoming co-protagonist, among other things, of the 19 most beautiful minutes for Roncadellea small village in the province of Brescia with just over 9 thousand inhabitants, which that day was able to boast both the judoka gold and that of Giovanni De Gennaro in the K1 Slalom kayak.
The following year, the athlete also climbed to the top step of the podium at the Judo World Championships which were held in Budapest from 13 to 20 June 2025.
And today she is once again the one to put the gold medal around her neck in the -78kg category, this time at the European Championships, underway in Tbilisi (Georgia) from April 16th to today April 19th, thus becoming the first Italian ever to conquer the treble in judo.
But she is not alone, today Gennaro Pirelli also climbs to the top step of the podium (in the men’s -100kg category). The Neapolitan athlete thus redeems himself for the unfortunate Paris 2024 Olympics which saw him eliminated in the round of 16.

The bronze medal
The unforgettable afternoon for Italian judo ends with Asya Tavano’s bronze medal in the women’s +78kg category (the third continental bronze for her after those of Sofia (Bulgaria) in 2022 and of Montpellier (France) in 2023).
