Ryanair is no longer the worst airline in Europe, on the contrary…

A trip is not limited to just an overnight stay, nor even to tourist stops, because the in-flight experience can transform a departure into a positive memory or into a moment of stress. In this sense, the ranking developed by AirAdvisor offers a useful framework for those who are planning a departure, without prejudice to a point clarified by the platform itself: the companies that appear in the lowest positions are not unsafe or disorganised. They have obvious strengths, along with some weaknesses that reduce their overall rating. In several cases, even carriers with lower scores show solid performance in various areas across different criteria used for the analysis.

The ranking was born from the work of a team of five experts, who spent weeks studying an enormous amount of data relating to European airlines. The final result is a detailed evaluation, divided into several key categories.

Here are the main elements taken into consideration:

The objective is to draw up a ranking of the 15 best European airlines and identify the winner in each thematic category, in order to provide practical information to those who will have to choose their next flight.

The three best European airlines

Here is the official podium:

1. Aegean Airlines – score 10.3
For the second consecutive year, the Greek company takes first place. It shines for the quality of the lounges, safety standards and general comfort, both for those traveling with their families and for those bringing pets with them. In terms of passenger reviews, Aegean ranks second in Europe.

2. Finnair – score 9.89
The Finnish carrier achieves excellent results in terms of comfort, customer satisfaction, lounge quality and operational safety. The only weak point emerges on the reliability side, where the score drops compared to the other indicators.

3. Iberia – score 9.78
The Spanish company stands out for safety, attention to family travel and the needs of pets, together with a good level of airport lounges. Compared to 2024, it gains three positions in the ranking, even if the evaluations expressed by customers remain decidedly more critical.

The worst companies, with the lowest scores

Wizz Air – score 6.33
The Hungarian carrier confirms itself as the cheapest in Europe. It is also the third most reliable in the European Union in terms of safety. In 2024 the flight cancellation rate significantly improved, falling from 5% to 0.5%.
On the other hand, it obtains the lowest ratings for family and pet travel, ranks second to last for comfort and third for the number of professional awards. However, it remains the best company in Eastern Europe in 2024.

LOT Polish Airlines – score 6.22
The Polish company shows decent results for family trips and average values for comfort and passenger reviews. In terms of safety, it will record zero accidents in 2024, while punctuality reaches 76%, a slight improvement compared to the previous year. In contrast, reliability and professional reviews remain below average, along with a bottom three rating for airport lounges. In just one year LOT slipped from eighth to fourteenth place.

Air Europa – score 5.33
Those who fly with Air Europa can count on very high safety standards, reduced cancellations and limited delays. Comfort is mid-table, with free snacks and drinks on board. The critical issues concern professional reviews and various aspects of the service, from prices to lounges, through to the family travel experience, as highlighted by the AirAdvisor report itself.
