Are you sure you know everything about your partner? Maybe, after a year of being in a relationship, you think you’ve learned everything about him or her, but… are you sure you’ve asked the right questions? Too often couples get lost in the magic of the initial phase, that of butterflies in the stomach, forgetting to delve into issues that could make a difference.

And so, there comes a time when you realize you don’t even know what the first pet of the person you’re sharing your time with was. Details that, at first glance, seem insignificant, but which actually reveal much more than you might imagine.

Jeff Guentheran expert in family and couples therapy with years of experience in his practice in Portland, Oregon, points out that if after a year there are still sides of your partner that surprise you, there may be something wrong.

I’m not saying that you have to know every little detail, but the foundations of a solid relationship are also built thanks to a profound knowledge of the other’s needs, emotions and dreams.

A quiz to find out if you really know your partner

Guenther has compiled a list of 12 questions, divided into three categories, that every couple should address together after 12 months of relationship. It’s not a game to see who responds best, but an exercise to strengthen the connection and discover how in tune you really are.

Why are these questions important?

According to TherapyJeff, these questions aren’t just about getting to know each other better, but about understanding each other’s emotional language. Some answers may surprise you, others confirm what you already knew. Either way, the sharing process will strengthen your bond. And on social media the response was enthusiastic.
