The choice of bank also has an impact: do you really know what your money is financing?

Because when we leave our salary in the bank account, that money never stays still. They enter the financial system and can help support economic activities, businesses, people and projects. And therefore, directly or indirectly, they can contribute to generating consequences for people, communities and the environment.

Does the bank know us, do we know it?

Our bank knows our economic life very well: it sees the salary, expenses, rent, card payments. However, how much do we know about what happens on the other side? Where are the resources we entrust to the bank used? What activities do we help support? And which ones are excluded?

Because a bank can finance a company that develops renewable energy, a social cooperative, a sustainable agriculture project or an activity that creates jobs in the area. But the financial system can also be linked to sectors with very different consequences: from the weapons industry to fossil fuels, from oil companies to activities linked to deforestation or intensive agriculture.

In addition to differentiating, choose your bank carefully

Because this choice may seem less visible than the ones we make every day to reduce our impact, but it is no less important for this. Where we put our money also means choosing, at least in part, what we help finance.

And it is precisely this question that we want to explore together with Banca Etica, starting from its 2026 Impact Report: not only how much money is collected and used, but where it goes, what realities it reaches and what social and environmental effects can be measured.

An hour to understand what your money really does

On October 20th at 5.00 pm, GreenMe and Banca Etica will talk about it in a free online webinar. An hour to understand what happens to your money when you leave it in the bank, without technicalities and without needing to know finance: we will start with simple questions, data, concrete examples, stories and images.

Together with Simona Falasca, director of GreenMe, Tommaso Rondinella, responsible for the 2026 Impact Report, and Roberta Conte, member of the Board of Directors of Banca Etica, we will follow the path of money and discover how a bank decides what to finance, what to exclude and how to measure the impact of its choices. And you can ask your questions too.

In the end you will have some more tools to look at your bank with different eyes: you will know what questions to ask, what to observe and why choosing where to keep your money is not a neutral choice. Because perhaps we know a lot about what we buy, what we eat and what we differentiate. But do we really know what our money is financing?
