The electric sailor arrives that is driven like a car, but with the pedals (and the advantages of a bike)

In an urban context increasingly suffocated by traffic, smog and unlivable spaces, solutions that try to question the hegemony of the car. Among these is ACTICycle, a curious three -wheeled electric veil, designed in France, which moves at the speed of a small bike but has the soul of a fairing bike. It is still under development, but promises to offer a real alternative for those who live and move to the city.

Three wheels, closed structure, and a speed of 45 km/h

The ACTICycle was conceived by the startup Liberté Vélo, with the aim of filling the void between electric bicycles and Citycar. The shape recalls that of a small sporting vehicle, but on closer inspection, it is a pedal assisted bicycle, completely fairing, with a fiberglass bodywork and a mixed steel and aluminum frame. The maximum speed? 45 km/h, the limit granted to vehicles in category L6E, to which it belongs.

The vehicle is as long as a load bike and has only one position: it can carry a person and a small luggage. The passenger compartment is closed and protected, equipped with windshield, wipers, front and rear lights, arrows and stop lights. The intent is clear: allow those who move by bike or scooter to do it with greater protection from rain, cold and wind, without having to move on to the car.

Acticycle is driven as a velocipede, but is approved among light mopeds and, according to the first rumors, will probably require a plaque and insurance, even if the precise modes have not yet been confirmed. The question of the cycle paths also remains open: can it access it or not? It will depend a lot on local regulations.

Autonomy of 50 km, 48 V battery and no emission: a vehicle designed for short and frequent journeys

From a technical point of view, ACTICycle is equipped with a 48 volt lithium battery, enough to guarantee about 50 km of autonomy with a single recharging. The goal is not to cover great distances, but to respond to the needs of those who make every day short journeys home-work, often below 20 km.

The most evident advantage is the reduced environmental impact. There is no combustion engine, there are no exhaust gases or noise. At a time when many European cities – from Paris to Milan – are narrowing the access of polluting vehicles and promoting lighter mobility, means like this could find space. Of course, it is not the panacea for all urban evils, but it represents one of the many possible roads towards a less impactful transport model.

At the moment, the sailor is under pre-production. Liberté Vélo has opened the pre -orders, but the actual production should start shortly. No precise date has been announced, nor are the definitive costs known, but they are aiming at an affordable price.
