The World Festival of Theater against Climate Change arrives in Turin (and reminds us that the time is now)

In a planet that is dealing with a galloping climate crisis, there are those who have chosen not to remain passive spectators. The World Theater Festival Against Climate Change, which kicked off on September 19th with events in Canada, Mexico, Peru, Germany, the United Kingdom and the USA, is preparing to celebrate its tenth anniversary in Italy too. The initiative, which every two years brings together artists from all over the world to raise awareness of the climate emergency, arrives in Turin this year, in collaboration with the Earthink Festival 2025 #TERRA.

After the successful participation of Climate Change Theater Action (CCTA) at the Edinburgh Festival, Giovanni Enrico Morassutti, actor, director and founder of the international residency for artists Art Aia – Creatives / In Residence, will lead an artistic residency in Turin together with Serena Bavo, actress and artistic director of Tékhné APS. The residency will take place within the Earthink Festival 2025 #TERRA, an event that promotes performing arts for sustainability.

A traveling performance in Turin: the appointment on November 8th

The work carried out during the residency will culminate with a traveling performance which will be held on Saturday 8 November 2025 at 5.00 pm, at the Einaudi Campus of the University of Turin. Spectators, equipped with smartphones and earphones, will be accompanied in a sound experience that will guide them through some of Turin’s symbolic places. Along the way, Morassutti and Bavo will present three texts taken from the collection of CCTA’s greatest hits of the last ten years: The Polar Bears by Nicolas Billon, Brackendale by Elaine Ávila, and Homo Sapiens by Chantal Bilodeau.

Since 2015, Climate Change Theater Action has presented 50 plays on the theme of the climate crisis, written by playwrights from all continents and indigenous communities. Each edition of the festival, which took place in 28 countries, combined theater with social, educational and civic actions, such as debates with experts, collaborations with environmental organizations, and political awareness initiatives.

“The Time is Now”: the theme of 2025

The theme chosen for 2025 is “The Time is Now”, an urgent call for collective action to unite global communities in concrete climate action. The aim of the festival is to push each participant to reflect on their environmental impact and contribute to global change.

On Saturday 8 November 2025, starting from 6.30 pm, at the Off Topic space in Corso Farini, the talk “WHAT POINT ARE WE AT?” will be held, a comparison between art and environmental activism. The event will see the participation of experts, including Valerio Neri from WWF Torino, and will also be an opportunity to present the new issue of the Earthink Young Board fanzine.

CCTA 2025 will continue until 20 December 2025, involving universities, theater groups and arts communities from around the world, with the aim of inspiring local and global action for sustainability and climate change.
