This couple traveled 11,000 km on the Andes with a solar bike that produces energy during the day and becomes a bed at night

A two -wheeled adventure between snowy peaks, infinite deserts and starry skies. Céline and Thomas, a Marseille couple, pedaled for over 11,000 km on the Andes, thanks to a pedal -assisted bike handled one A 390 toilet -built solar trailerbuilt entirely by Thomas. No hotel, no electrical outlet. Only the sun, nature and so much ingenuity.

Electric bike and solar trailer

That of Céline and Thomas is not a simple journey, but a declaration of intent. They decided to abandon the comforts to chase an ideal of Slow tourism, sustainable and completely autonomous. The heart of the project is a craft trailer able to transform into pocket camperpowered entirely by solar energy.

The trailer weighs 35 kg and integrates Three photovoltaic panels for a total of 390 toilet and materials chosen with care: Aluminum, polycarbonate, fiberglass, epoxy resin. Inside, everything you need to live and pedal without giving up comfort: A bed, a folding table, two ultralight chairs, integrated lighting.

The average speed with which they manage to travel varies between the 22 and 28 km/hdepending on the slope and the road surface. In ideal conditions – that is, with peaceful skies and good exposure – they manage to travel up to 110 kilometers in one dayeven facing 1,500 meters in altitude.

To face cloudy days or stages without sufficient exposure to the sun, Thomas has also integrated one secondary batteryuseful not only to provide escort energy for pedal assisted, but also to recharge Smartphones, cameras and GPS.

The project, entirely created by Thomas in his laboratory, represents a perfect balance between ingenuity, passion and environmental awareness. The suspended wheels, for example, are not a technical habit, but a precise choice to protect the back and joints even in the most impervious traits.

Over 11,000 km

The departure took place in Ecuador, with a track that crossed Peru, Bolivia, Chile and Argentinafor a total of 11,000 km and over 50,000 meters of positive altitude difference.

The electric assistance of the bikes, powered exclusively from the solar panels, allowed them to transport everything you need: camping equipment, electronic devicestools for cooking, and of course the folding housing structure that opened every evening in breathtaking scenarios.

A travel philosophy to follow (and to imitate)

Everything was born from a simple idea: to live a year traveling without fuels, without hotels and without compromise. Yet, behind this apparently naive dream, there is a meticulous work that lasted twelve monthsin which Thomas built Two artisan prototypes in his laboratory. There was no corporate funding, nor rates of dizzying funds: alone Passion, determination and desire for freedom.

Thomas’s solar remorchper is not on sale, but has already turned on the imagination of those who dream of tourism green, autonomous and accessible.
