This course teaches women over 70 who want to become DJ (and it is very coveted!)

In Germany an original initiative is giving a new item to electronic music And challenging the stereotypes related to age. The C/or pop festival of colonyin collaboration with the Nrw Landesmusikrat, started the project “Forever Fresh”, A workshop dedicated to women over 70 who want to learn the art of djing.

The idea was born from the desire to counteract discrimination Which often affects elderly women, especially in creative and technological areas. With this course, the Festival wants to demonstrate that the passion for music and the desire to get involved age.

The workshop is held in the rooms of the C/O Cologne-Ehrenfeld and sees the participation of eleven women between 70 and 89 years oldall enthusiastic about discovering the secrets of Djing. To guide them in this experience are two professionals in the sector, Anna Cainelli and DJ Sedation, who teach them the foundations of the mixing, the use of technical equipment and the management of a DJ set. In addition to the more technical aspects, participants also receive suggestions on Styling, scenic presence and use of social media to promote your work.

They will perform live at the end of April

The initiative has received enormous success since its announcement, so much so that requests for participation have far exceeded the available places. Many aspiring DJs have been included in a waiting list for future project editions, a sign of great interest for this form of artistic expression even among the most mature generations.

During the opening ceremony of the workshop, Elke Kuhlen, director of the C/O Pop program, and Robert V. Zahn, representative of the State Council of the music of the northern Rhine-See Rhine, they welcomed the group of participants with exciting. Both have underlined how pop music and djing culture can be an intergenerational experiencecapable of uniting people of all ages and reducing social barriers.

The project will culminate with a special event at the end of April, when the new DJs will have The opportunity to perform live during the Festival. Participation in the workshops is completely free, thanks to the funding of the Ministry of Culture and Science of Northern Rhine-Western. The initiative not only celebrates the passion for music, but shows that reinventing itself has no age limits.
