Vegan nun wins her first weight lifting race by raising 108 kg to 72 years (and has only started for 4 months)

In the heart of the Bay Area in California, there is a woman who challenges every stereotype: Sister Pat Farrell, 72 years old, has become a living symbol of strength, resilience and … weight lifting. For just four months he started training with weights to improve his health and on 19 July he participated in his first official PowerLifting race, winning a medal in his category.

During California Summer Open organized by the USA Powerlifting, Sister Farrell raised almost 108 kg a total of, exceeding its body weight. He performed a 35 kg plain bench and a 72.5 kg ground detachment, with the aim of adding the squat to the next competition. All this, under the guidance of the Vegan coach and Powerlifter Katya Gorbacheva.

Faith, sport and health: a vegan diet follows

Member of the Order of the Dominican of San Raffaele, Sister Pat has decided to devote himself to training after reading the effects of muscle mass loss after 60 years. He started with the dumbbells in the house, and then moved on to the San Francisco The Yard gym, where he trains with his “Gym Bros”. The result? An evident improvement of physical health, in particular in the back, and a new contagious energy, which inspired those around them.

With pride, Sister Pat tells of how her commitment represents the legacy of the intrepid women of her order, which this year celebrates 175 years of mission and service. Not all its sisters are ready to challenge barbells, but the message is clear: move is good for any age.

But his secret to being so fit is not only training. In addition to this, in fact, Sister Farrell follows a vegan diet and aims to walk 10,000 steps per day. Its history is a living example on how faith and well -being can coexist.
