Victory! Cumbria Safari Zoo accused of animal cruelty will close!

After accumulating failures and violations of animal rights, inexplicable deaths and various tortures, the Cumbria Safari Zoo has announced the closure. However, all is not as it seems, because according to animal rights activists, another one is about to open.

This is the news Freedom for Animalsthe animal rights association that fought hard to achieve this result.

For years, the Cumbria Safari Zoo it was synonymous with abandonment and suffering. Under its previous director, David Gill, nearly 500 animals have tragically lost their lives in just three yearswhile severe infrastructure deficiencies led to the heartbreaking death of a farmer.

Despite minor changes in leadership over the years, animal welfare problems have persisted, as documented by inspections carried out by the local authority, DEFRA and independent animal protection organizations such as Freedom for Animals and Born Free Foundation.

While we are yet to find out the zoo’s closure plans and what will happen to the animals they keep in captivity, the end of Cumbria Safari Zoo as we know it is a huge step forward in our fight for animal freedom. We ask local authorities to ensure that every zoo animal is relocated to appropriate sanctuaries, where they can receive the care they deserve and live free from suffering and exploitation, they write.

We sincerely thank everyone who supported this important campaign. Whether you signed a petition, held or participated in a protest, or shared our posts, you were all a vital part of this achievement! Together, we have proven that collective action can lead to meaningful change.

According to the latest updates from Freedom for Animals, the management team at Cumbria Safari Zoo has submitted a planning application to open a new Tebay Zoo. According to sources, in fact, the operators of the South Lakes Safari Zoo have presented a plan to create a wildlife reserve on its Tebay site with non-native exotic species.

Here is the petition launched by Freedom for Animals to say no to this new plan.
