Not even these wolves deserve to live: two specimens that had preyed on some pecores unattended in an hut will soon be killed. The Tar of Bolzano gave the ok to their execution by canceling the suspension until 9 September requested and initially obtained from the environmental associations.
As a law in a press release from the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, yesterday 9 August the Tar of Bolzano rejected the request for suspension of three animal rights organizations against the authorization for the withdrawal of two wolves in Alta Val Venosta.
The President of the Province Arno Kompatscher had granted the authorization on 30 July, supporting in particular the need due to the protection of pastures.
In the period between May and July 2025, in Alta Val Venosta, 31 attacks on pastures were checked, confirmed and documented by the forest authority as wolves attacks. In the same area, 42 attacks had already been recorded in the previous seasonal season. The affected huts have been declared areas for the protection of pastures. However, the owners have adopted cattle protection measures, which however have not been able to prevent harmful events
But some associations including the Lav Lega Antivivisection had asked for a suspension until 9 September, the day of a further hearing. And initially this had been granted. However, as Lav itself reports, the President of the Administrative Court has decided to drop this suspension, legitimizing the immediate execution of the killing of the wolves, despite the fact that, however, the hearing of 9 September remains set.
Both the Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA) and the Provincial Faunistic Observatory had previously confirmed that the conditions for the withdrawal exist – reads now on the Province press release – the authorization has a duration of 60 days. The implementation was entrusted to the Provincial Forestry Corps
The TAR claims that the withdrawal of two wolves does not compromise the state of favorable conservation of the population of Lupi in South Tyrol.
So they will die too.
