“You will come back, perhaps. But today I chose life”, Benji’s touching letter to “his” depression

For many you are a vague stuff. A black cloud, an abstract concept, the obsession of the dissatisfied eternal. For me no. You exist. You are true. You smell, weight, voice“, So in a moving post on social media Benjamin Mascolo, the Benji of the Duo Pop Benji & Fede, says goodbye to his depression.

With simple but sharp words, Benjamin wanted to greet – or perhaps just dismiss for a while – the old life partner. In a long message, the singer put his farewell on white to that invisible pain that accompanied him for years, between ups and downs, between falls and tiring ashes.

I heard the door slamming you. You left everything in disorder and you left without even greeting, he writes.

Hard, real words that but tell a silent battle that many know. Benjamin, today 32 years old, finally seems to glimpse the light after a long dark journey. And he chooses to share the moment he feels he can return to fight after he learned that he will become a dad.

It is no coincidence that this letter arrives now, in one of the happiest periods of his life: after the marriage with Greta Cuoghi, the singer is preparing to become a father for the first time.

Now I have returned to fight, even if I risk making me hurt again, confesses with a disarming sincerity.

For years, Benjamin has dealt with addictions, finite loves and music that seemed to have lost meaning. Today, however, he is reconstructing, piece by piece. Also artistically: the return with Federico Rossi marks a new phase for the duo Benji & Fede, born between the bedrooms and raised together with a generation.

With this raw and poetic letter, Benjamin does not look like a winner, but as a man who has chosen to stay. To try again. And this is enough. “We will meet again, sure. But not today. And not even tomorrow“.

A goodbye that knows of hope.
