The story of the six -year -old boy who disappeared yesterday afternoon, Monday 11 August, along the Treporti coast, ended in the most painful way. After hours of frenetic research, coast coordinates and firefighters, the lifeless body of the baby was found in the night, about a hundred meters from the shore and close to a frangiflutto. Originally from Roncade, in the province of Treviso, the child was on vacation with his family in a campsite in the town.
The alarm and the first searches
The alert was taken around 4 pm, when the mother, not seeing him again from the water, asked the lifeguard for help. In a few minutes on the spot vehicles were intervened by land and sea, with divers, water bikes and a helicopter. The research area extended from the Ca ‘Pasquali area to the Blue Sea plant.
The human chain of hope
In those dramatic hours there was a gesture of solidarity that will remain impressed in the memory of many. Dozens of bathers, without hesitation, formed a human chain, slowly advancing from the shoreline towards the highest water, metro after metro, in the hope of finding the child. From the helicopter the images showed a long row of united people, a gesture that transformed the beach into a single common front against time and that went around the web and the media.

Sonar and lifeless discovery
Despite the efforts, the baby was not identified in the early hours. During the night, the searches saw the arrival of an ATR-42 plane of the Coast Guard, equipped with night recipient systems, while the divers have used a sophisticated Sonar to disdain the seabed. It was precisely this tool that allowed the discovery, around 3 in the morning, at a depth of two meters.

A community that has been able to unite
The tragic outcome has turned off all hope, but does not erase the image of a community that, even in a moment of vacation, has been able to join to help an unknown family. The human chain of Cavallino Treporti remains the symbol of a humanity that, in front of despair, chooses to act together. We would have liked to tell you a story of solidarity with a happy ending but unfortunately not even the collective force managed to change a dramatic ending.
