Hellosafe’s recent Travel Safety Index 2025 revealed a geography of world security that sees Europe dominating the ranking, with Iceland, Singapore and Denmark on the podium. Behind these numbers hides an important lesson for those who dream of safe, sustainable and responsible trips.
The podium of world security
Iceland, Singapore and Denmark won the first three positions in the 2025 ranking of the safest countries for travelers, with scores respectively of 18.23, 19.99 and 20.05 points out of 100. The evaluation methodology is based on an inverse score system: the lower the score, the greater the level of safety of the country.
Europe: a security fortress
Twelve of the 15 safest countries in the world are found in Europe, confirming the continental primacy in terms of safety for travelers. Austria and Switzerland complete the European Top Five, positioning themselves respectively in the fourth and fifth place.
The European ranking continues with the Czech Republic in sixth place with 21.19 points, followed by other continent countries that dominate the upper part of the international ranking.
Italy: a disappointing position

Italy records a worrying performance in the panorama of travel safety. The Belpaese is only placed in 33rd worldwide place with 34.74 points, a position that arouses many doubts considering the status of leading tourist destination. Italy precedes only France, Greece, Ukraine and Russia in the European ranking, highlighting important critical issues in the parameters assessed by the security index.
Global tail lights
Philippines, Colombia and Mexico occupy the latest positions in the world ranking, confirming how much the security issue is still very delicate in different regions of Latin America and Asia.
Ukraine and Russia are found at the bottom of the ranking, compromised by the conflict in progress since 2022, a situation that has inevitably impacted on the evaluation of safety for international travelers.
United States: an unexpected result
Even the United States do not shine, positioning themselves among the countries with the lowest scores in terms of safety for travelers, a situation that contrasts with the image of world superpower and raises several questions about the safety evaluation parameters.
The indication methodology
The Hellosafe index analyzes the safety of travel through 35 specific indicators ranging from local crime to political stability, from natural risks to the efficiency of health infrastructures. The data come from several United Nations agencies, the World Bank and numerous specialized international organizations.
The index evaluates aspects such as natural risks, crime, conflicts and quality of health infrastructures, for that which is configured as a complete overview of the factors that can influence the safety of travelers.
