At 80 he runs 492 kilometers into a day in one day: the epic challenge of Oscar Tosini (who lied to the age to compete)

Nine days after his eightieth birthday, Oscar Tosini di Bosaro (Rovigo) made an extraordinary undertaking: travel 492 kilometers by bicycle in 24 hours, during an endurance race at the Vallelunga racetrack. The goal of the 500 kilometers escaped a little, but the cyclist did not hide his satisfaction for the result obtained. Tosini proved not only determined, but also a real example of sporting passion at any age.

To enroll in the event, Tosini had to declare that he was born in 1950, while his real date of birth is 1945. The regulation, in fact, limits participation in the over 75. A regulation to be changed according to Tosini, who had to force the system to be able to participate. Despite this difficulty, the cyclist has respected all medical formalities and sports cards.

The race and the results

During the race, Tosini made 120 laps of the circuit, with a total difference in altitude of about 2,400 meters. He stopped only 35 minutes to change clothing, refuel food and water and manage corporal needs. He consumed over 10,000 calories, including sandwiches, brioche, energy bars, gels, five coffee and five liters of water. This was attended by his brother Palmiro Franco, in charge of “flying” supplies in the Pit Stop area, guaranteeing constant support during the entire duration of the race.

Tosini ranked 54th out of 127 participants and seventh in the MO Super Gentleman category, reserved for cyclists from 60 years old. The over 65 in the race were very few: only him, with 492 kilometers, and a 72 -year -old, who traveled 269 kilometers. Compared to his previous participation of 2024, Tosini has improved the result, going from 421 to 492 kilometers.

Despite the age, Tosini said that he would still have to pedal when time had expired, since he felt fresh. The only limit was the opposite wind that has reduced the hourly average in the last few hours. The next challenge will not be only pedal, but also aims to change a regulation that limits over 75.
