Everyone’s crazy about curling: home versions (with pots and brooms) of the most viral sport of the Olympics are all the rage

Curling is experiencing a golden age thanks to Stefania Constantini and Amos Mosaner, the couple who transformed a niche sport into a discipline that everyone loves (and tries). At the 2022 Beijing Olympics, Constantini and Mosaner were outsiders and returned home with the first gold medal in the history of Italian curling, undefeated and capable of managing every key moment of the matches. And from there the curling trend exploded inexorably until today, rekindled thanks to Milano Cortina 2026.

The path of Constantini and Mosaner at the Milan Cortina Olympics

After the Olympic victory, the two followed separate competitive paths, and then reunited in 2025, winning the world title in mixed doubles, always without defeats. Stefania, born in Pieve di Cadore, started playing curling at eight years old and built her career between training, travel and international competitions. Amos, originally from Trento, started with cycling before moving on to curling, bringing experience and clarity to the field.

At the Milan Cortina Olympics, the Italian pair opened with a victory over South Korea (8-4) and immediately after faced Canada, losing 7-2 and interrupting their unbeaten run in major events. The symbolic match was the rematch against Norway, the Beijing final: down 3-5, the Italians took advantage of the power play and in the last end pulled off an incredible feat, winning 6-5.

After finishing the group in second place, Italy entered the semi-final against the USA thanks to the 7-6 achieved in the last round of the round robin. Unfortunately, however, here the tables were turned and Costantini and Mosaner lost, still remaining in the fight for a bronze but not a gold medal against Great Britain.

Curling conquers social media

But as mentioned, in addition to the performances (real and professional ones) on the ice at the Olympics, curling – a sport that has its roots in 16th century Scotland – is also conquering the public on social media, with memes and ironic videos of home versions of the sport. From robot vacuum cleaners being chased with brooms as mops to pans sliding across the floor, users are turning the discipline into a viral phenomenon.

Many are having fun replicating curling at home, following unwritten rules and sharing everything with hashtags like #milanocortina and #curling, feeling a bit like Olympic athletes. This online popularity is helping to bring the discipline closer to the general public, transforming every improvised match into a spectacle even off the ice.

One of the most viral examples is the video shot in Macugnaga under Monterosa where in a frozen lake the pots became stones. There is clearly no shortage of technical comments and shouts of enthusiasm from good Italians: “Nooo, too much weight in front!Because we know, as happens with football at the World Cup, we are all coaches and sports experts, including curling.
