At the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Paralympics, Italy has just experienced a moment to remember. In less than two hours, in fact, the Italian expedition won four medals in Paralympic alpine skiing: one gold and two silver which bring the medal count up to 9 medals in total.
Leading this extraordinary sequence of results were Giacomo Bertagnolli, Chiara Mazzel, Federico Pellizzari and René De Silvestro, the absolute protagonists of a day that makes it clear the great state of form of the Italian athletes on the Paralympic snow.
Chiara Mazzel continues her perfect series
It all started with Chiara Mazzel, who won silver in the Alpine combined Vision Impaired category. The Italian skier, 29 years old, thus achieved the third podium out of three races held in these Games, confirming herself as one of the great protagonists of the Italian expedition. The gold medal went to the Austrian Veronika Aigner, the favorite on the eve of the race, who performed an impeccable race.

Bertagnolli makes history with his fifth gold
A few minutes later the most important medal arrived with the victory of Giacomo Bertagnolli in the men’s Alpine combined Vision Impaired category. The Italian, accompanied by guide Andrea Ravelli, won the Paralympic title with an overall time of 1’56″42, defending the advantage built in the super-G.
For Bertagnolli this is a historic achievement: the fifth Paralympic title in his career and the eleventh overall medal at the Games. A demonstration of continuity and talent that confirms him among the greatest interpreters of international Paralympic skiing. Behind him comes the British Neil Simpson, silver after a great comeback in the slalom, while the bronze goes to the Austrian Johannes Aigner.

The performances of the other Italians in the race were also good, with Bendotti fifth and Palla sixth, a sign of a competitive and compact team.

The fourth medal with René De Silvestro: another silver
And finally, the icing on the cake, the fourth medal of the day also arrived with the standard-bearer René De Silvestro, one of the Italian pillars in the sitting alpine skiing where he competes in the LW12-1 class. At the Beijing 2022 Paralympics he won two medals (silver and bronze) and has now added another silver to his collection in the men’s combined sitting behind Jeroen Kampschreur (Netherlands) and ahead of Niels De Langen (Netherlands).
