The Dolomites also suffer due toovertourism: for this reason, from the summer of 2027 a sort of Limited Traffic Zone (ZTL) could be launched between Val Gardena and Val Badia. According to what was reported by local portals, from May to October only residents of the two valleys will be able to pass freely, while access for hikers will be limited by limited and paid parking.
A measure that is necessary to prevent the Dolomites from being disfigured by mass tourism, which is often not very attentive to the environment and in any case not tolerable by the fragile ecosystem balances of those splendid valleys and peaks.
For this reason, only 150 paid parking spaces could be made available to hikers, accessible exclusively through online booking, with exceptions for work reasons, for guests of the accommodation facilities along the pass and for other documented needs.
In the Dolomites, during peak periods, there are up to 11 thousand passages per day, figures that are becoming unsustainable. For this reason, the measure provides for journeys between the two valleys to become longer for those who do not fall into the authorized categories, with alternative routes through the Sella and Pordoi passes or even via Val Pusteria.
Furthermore, to discourage the use of private transport, it is planned to strengthen public transport, with buses every 15-20 minutes, and that the ski lifts towards the pass will apply standard rates for local South Tyrolean public transport.
The measure was designed by a working group, but will have to be approved by the Provincial Council.
