A strategic infrastructure that combines environmental sustainability with the tourist enhancement of one of the most loved territories in Europe. The brand new segment of the cycle path that connects the town of Nago to the Garda plain has officially opened its doors, redesigning gentle mobility between Vallagarina and the lake’s body of water.
The ribbon cutting event was attended by the highest local authorities, led by the provincial governor Maurizio Fugatti, flanked by the first citizens Gianni Morandi (Nago-Torbole), Alessio Zanoni (Riva del Garda), Arianna Fiorio (Arco) and the head of Apt Garda Dolomiti, Silvio Rigatti. The work did not involve new land consumption, but was born from the intelligent recovery of existing routes, bringing a route into compliance that is a candidate to become a leading attraction in view of the prestigious Road Cycling World Championships in 2031.
Underground engineering and road safety
The technological heart of the route extends over a total extension of just over two kilometres. The most significant engineering intervention involved the construction of a 60 meter long tunnel underpass, dug directly into the rock beneath the roadway of the SS240, near the Belvedere panoramic point and the famous Sesto Grado curve.

This prefabricated structure guarantees the total safety of users, avoiding dangerous level crossings. The project envisaged a clear and impassable separation of pedestrian and cycling flows, differentiated both through dedicated horizontal and vertical signs and through a precise chromatic and material variation of the road pavement. After passing the tunnel, the route winds along the rock, gently sloping towards the plain through three large panoramic hairpin bends.

Structural investments and future developments
The economic investment for the construction of the work was quantified at 3,686,096 euros for the works alone, included in an overall financial framework of almost 5 million euros, largely covered by European funding from the PNRR. From a logistical point of view, the cycle path temporarily connects to the local road system of the Pratosaiano di Arco area and to the Caneve roundabout, but the action plan envisages a direct connection to the Ciclovia dei Laghi and the Sarca river in the very short term.
This definitive junction will come to life in parallel with the construction sites of the Loppio-Busa road variant, thanks to the future installation of a cycle/pedestrian walkway integrated into the new viaduct over the river. To ease the cycling pressure on the nearby roundabout between the SS240 and the SS240dir, the administration will soon install signs to divert bicycle transit within the historic center of Nago, supporting the economy of the small commercial activities of the village.
