Tomorrow 21 June, when summer officially enters, there will be eight red-label Italian cities, Bologna, Bolzano, Brescia, Florence, Milan, Perugia, Rieti and Turin. This was communicated by the Ministry of Health, which calls for the usual safety measures and prudence. This is already the second heat wave arriving in our country, brought by the African subtropical anticyclone.
As widely expected, the anticyclone is consolidating over central-western Europe, with a maximum pressure of 1025 hPa expected for Sunday 21 June between the Alps and Northern Italy. At high altitude the subtropical dome of the African anticyclone but also a mild depression to the west of Spain act, while the subsidence further warms the air masses through compression.
Furthermore, on June 21st at 10.24 am, the summer solstice is expected, the moment in which the Sun will be at zenithor in the most “vertical” point possible, with respect to Tropic of Cancer.
The ministry’s maps are rather disturbing: tomorrow 21 June not only will the red and orange stickers increase, but no Italian city will have the green sticker.
