If a baby entered your home between 1 January and 14 April 2026, you have until tomorrow Wednesday 12 August to request the 2026 Newborn Bonus, the one-off contribution of 1,000 euros for each child born or adopted.
For births, adoptions or pre-adoptive placements that occurred after 14 April 2026, however, the request can be submitted within 120 days of the birth or entry of the minor into the family unit.
The measure is intended for families with an ISEE for family benefits and inclusion not exceeding 40 thousand euros, while any amounts received for the single and universal allowance are not considered in the calculation.
The requirements
One of the parents must submit the application. If the parents do not live together, the request is up to the parent residing with the child.
Furthermore, the bonus can be requested for children of Italian citizens or of another European Union country. Non-EU citizens in possession of specific residence permits are also admitted, including the EU permit for long-term residents or some work and research permits.
Finally, the applicant must be resident in Italy at the time of birth, adoption or pre-adoptive foster care.
In summary:
How to apply
The application must be submitted online through the INPS services, using Spid, electronic identity card or national services card or by contacting the Institute’s Contact Center or a patronage.
Adoptions
A specific regulation is foreseen for adoptions. In the case of pre-adoptive foster care, the date of entry of the minor into the adopting family indicated by the provision of the Juvenile Court is considered.
For international adoptions, however, the reference is the date on which the provision is transcribed in the civil status registers. Even in these cases the application must be submitted within 120 days of the event envisaged by the law.
