AAA looking for a new home for over 130 birds rescued from an animal hoarder in Brescia

A terrible case of animal hoarding has been brought to light in Brescia and now there is a need a safe accommodation for over 130 specimens. They are roosters and hens, wild pigeons and domestic pigeons, all kept among piles of dirt and excrement in terrible conditions.

The zookeepers of OIPA, the International Animal Protection Organization, intervened in collaboration with the Health Protection Agency (Ats). The nucleus found a serious deterioration in health and hygiene.

31 roosters and hens were locked in two dog pens among food scraps, such as chips or mollusc shells, intended for human consumption. The 40 wild pigeons and 61 domestic pigeons were instead crammed into other boxes.

The birds were given inadequate nutrition and the their bodies also suffered from unsuitable detention conditions for individual species. Following the checks, the hoarder was fined, but the animals cannot remain in that place.

They will need to be relocated to suitable environments. For this reason, OIPA appeals to refuges and sanctuaries throughout the national territory. While the chickens have already found a new home, a worthy solution is still being sought for several roosters, pigeons and pigeons.

Anyone wishing to have information can contact the zoophile guards of Brescia at the email ordinibrescia@oipa.org or at the telephone number 3473238073. Cases like this must be reported because only in this way can concrete action be taken to rescue animals in difficulty.
