Autumn time for chestnuts, and time for festivals, the chestnut festivals however they go beyond the simple village festival, they are real journeys to the villages between mountains and hills, where the chestnut becomes the protagonist of ancient traditions and authentic flavours.

Between walks in the woods, giant pans cooking steaming roasted chestnuts and tastings of typical dishes, each festival offers an immersion in rural culture, with events and shows for all ages.

Chestnut Festival in Manziana (RM): 11-13 October

The Manziana chestnut festival is an unmissable event, it will take place from 11 to 13 October. This weekend, Manziana is transformed into an open-air theater with shows, chestnut-based dishes, music, dancing and entertainment for children. Here is the complete program.

Chestnut Festival in Soriano nel Cimino (VT): 28-29 September; 4-6, 10-13, 17-20 October

One of the oldest and most famous festivals, with medieval shows, historical processions, and stands offering roasted chestnuts and typical sweets. An opportunity to immerse yourself in local traditions and enjoy the views of the Cimini Mountains. Here is the whole program.

Chestnut Days in Canepina (VT): 4, 12-13, 19-20, 26-27, 31 October; November 1st

Autumn brings the XLII edition of the Chestnut Days to Canepina, scheduled from 4 October to 1 November. It is the event dedicated to the chestnut, symbol of the area, which attracts thousands of visitors with free roasted chestnuts, markets, shows and historical re-enactments. The local cellars open their doors offering typical dishes, while the museum of popular traditions and the “road of knowledge and flavours” enrich the experience. Vallerano Chestnut Festival (VT): 12-13, 19-20, 26-27, 31 October; November 1-3

The XXII Vallerano Chestnut Festival, from 12 October to 3 November, will liven up the village with over 40 events including traditions, art and culture. Organized in collaboration with local associations, this edition offers more inclusive and engaging participation. In the alleys of the historic centre, visitors will be able to discover the renowned Vallerano DOP chestnut through tastings in the typical tufaceous cellars, accompanied by hot wine, exhibitions, live music and popular games for an authentic experience of the Tuscia of Viterbo. Chestnut Festival in Montelanico (RM): 18-20 October

The Chestnut Festival in Montelanico offers food and wine stands with tastings of local specialties and exhibitions of craftsmanship from the Lepini Mountains. On the last day, the 60th Extemporaneous Painting Exhibition โ€œIl Riccio d’Oro,โ€ entitled โ€œWhen Brushes Meet History,โ€ allows you to admire painters intent on portraying the village. Visitors can enjoy free roasted chestnuts, typical chestnut-based products and local wine, all enriched by musical shows and traditional dances.

Chestnut and Typical Products Festival in Cave (RM): 25-27 October

The โ€œChestnut and Typical Products Festivalโ€ in Cave will be held on 25, 26 and 27 October, preceded by a โ€œpre-festivalโ€ on the weekend of 19 and 20 October. This event, which celebrates chestnuts and other local products in the Prenestini Mountains, is a 90-year tradition, paying homage to Cave’s long history in the production of chestnuts, walnuts and hazelnuts, just 50 km from Rome.
