With an estimated age of 120 years according to experts and measuring 5.48 metres, Cassius was the largest saltwater crocodile ever caught alive in Australia. The year was 1987 when the wild animal was forever removed from its natural habitat, where it was known to attack boats.

From the Northern Territory he was transported 3,200 km to Green Islandwhere he spent the rest of his existence. However, his condition worsened from October 15 until the giant Cassius died.

Marineland Melanesia Crocodile Habitat staff remembered Cassius as a “beloved companion.” Not a simple crocodile, but “a family member” who shared 37 years with George, the zoo’s founder.

Assuring the public that Cassius will remain in the memory of everyone who met him, the Marineland Melanesia Crocodile Habitat wanted to thank everyone who came to say goodbye to the world’s largest crocodile. Their star is gone. Only death could free him and so it happened.
