Low cost flights, new Ryanair restrictions: forget the check in or be late will cost dear (starting from May)

From the farewell to the paper boarding card to the new hand luggage rules: revolution in the Ryanair house. From next May, in fact, a series of changes for those traveling with the Irish low cost company

First of all, starting from May 2025, check-in with Ryanair will be exclusively digital. No more paper boarding cards printed at the airport.

If we travel with this company, we will be required to check in through the official Ryanair app and download the boarding card with QR code on your smartphone.

Check-in becomes digital

The company will still accept the boarding cards printed at home, but it will no longer be possible to get them to the airport benches.

Forget the online check-in will cost dearly: Up to 60 euros for a fine for those who show up at the terminal without boarding card digital.

Hand luggage: more restrictions and savory fines

Luggage policy also changes. It will be possible to bring only a small personal bag for free (max 40x20x25 cm). Attention to size: a larger baggage without the option Priority It will cost up to 70 euros of surcharge in the gate.

Those who want to bring a second hand luggage will have to buy the service Priority Boardingwhile for the most voluminous luggage it will be necessary to board the hold.

Eye to the timetables: the delay is expensive

Ryanair recommends arriving at the airport widely in advance. Presenting yourself late may be a real room: The fine for those who lose flight or check-in after the scheduled time reaches up to 120 euros.

Practical advice: follow the indications of the airports. For example, in Dublin it is suggested to arrive at least 2 hours earlier for short -range flights and 3 hours for the long -haul ones.

Reimbursements

Some of these new measures introduced may encounter some difficulties. In November 2024, the Competition and Market Authority established that the information provided by Ryanair on the methods of online check-in was misleading, thus imposing on the company to fully compensate the travelers involved. In particular, the indications did not clearly explain the period of validity of the service or the additional costs applied in the event of non-check-in online within the expected deadline.

Following the decision, Ryanair has undertaken to return the full sum of 55 euros, corresponding to the rate applied for check-in carried out at the airport, to all passengers who between 2021 and 2023 presented a complaint, declaring not to having been adequately informed about the conditions of the service.

In addition, for travelers who booked a flight between 2021 and 2023 and have checked at the airport (over 100 thousand people), the company will recognize compensation of 15 euros or a voucher worth 20 euros to be used for the purchase of Ryanair Dac services.
